Oil Recovered from Crumb Sediment for Biofuel
The Craigavon Coated factory generates 8 tonnes per week of crumb sediment, a by product of the coating process on the production lines. Some crumb accumulates in the cooking oil and becomes sediment. However the amount is minimised in the production process by continuous improvement and monitoring.

Heat Recovery
A Heat Recovery System at Dungannon has reduced carbon emissions by over 1,000 tonnes. In the factory warm water has numerous important uses including defeathering birds, crate washing, factory cleaning and hand washing. The site consumed in excess of 250 million litres of warm water in 2011, enough to fill almost 100 Olympic size swimming pools.

Working with our integrated waste management partner, Biffa, Moy Park has made a dramatic improvement in waste reduction, transforming the ratio from 85% waste to landfill, to over 95% recycling and recovery between the time of forming the partnership at the end of 2010 to today.

Energy Efficient Lighting
Ashbourne has achieved twice as much light for 17% less power. The Process Two packing hall at the Ashbourne primary site has been re-lamped with high efficiency induction lights at the end of 2011. The light level has increased from 500 Lux to 1000 Lux, which has significantly improving the working environment for staff.

As part of the second stage of a partnership project, Moy Park is researching how to reduce the industry's impact on the environment, using computer modelling to look at environmental impacts of the sector, known as Lifecycle Assessment.
