In what has been described as ‘a recycling revolution’ at Moy Park has been recognised at the annual Sustainable Ireland awards.
Moy Park Craigavon, in partnership with Biffa IRM, has achieved outstanding results through commitment, engagement and sheer hard work.
Now the team behind the ‘revolution’ has been named ‘Waste Management Team of the Year,’ representatives of which received the award, sponsored by environment and waste consultants KCS Ltd, at a glittering black tie event at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast.
The team's project OSCAR (Online Segregation, Collection and Recycling), undertook the most detailed study into waste arisings that has ever been carried out on a Moy Park site.
From the data collected it was calculated that Project OSCAR could save over 30% in waste disposal costs, whilst also reducing the environmental footprint of its operations. And so it has come to pass!
“Project OSCAR is now in full swing and with all new process changes there have been many hurdles to overcome to ensure the correct segregation of recyclable materials were maintained, this making the viability of the project cost effective. I have been encouraged by the commitment of all staff involved with making the project a success and with that and the dedication of the core members and regular feedback I’m happy to say Project OSCAR is making Moy Park Craigavon an environmentally greener site,” commented Doug Clingan, Hygiene Compliance Manager.
Biffa IRM and Moy Park are now working on the roll-out of Project OSCAR across several other Moy Park sites.
With 16 separate categories, the annual Awards are organised by the Hillsborough based publishers of Sustainable Ireland and is now widely regarded as the premier event in the Irish Environmental, Waste Management and Energy sectors, attracting entries, support and sponsorship from all the leading players across the industry.
