Cancer Focus Northern Ireland has been awarded funding by Moy Park, to put towards its services in Northern Ireland. The charity has received over £18,000 in funding which has been used to offer support sessions & increase their counselling service throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The charity received the grant from the £1 million Community Support Fund Moy Park established in 2020 to support organisations local to its operations across Europe.
Roisin O’Connor, Therapeutic Services Manager, Cancer Focus NI, said: “We are so grateful to Moy Park for this very generous donation, it came at such a difficult time when many charities like ourselves were struggling throughout the pandemic.
“This funding allowed us to offer an additional 500 sessions to local people impacted by cancer and greatly reduce our waiting list. It allowed people to be seen more quickly at a time when they needed our services the most.
"Our counselling service is a lifeline to cancer patients in our community and their family members who might have no other place to talk openly about how cancer is affecting them. The demand on our service has always been great, the impact of Covid-19 saw it increase significantly. The grant has made a real difference to people in need in the local community."
Operating for over 50 years, Cancer Focus NI provides care and support services for cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland. The charity also offers cancer prevention programmes, aimed at empowering people and helping lessen their risk of getting cancer as well as funding scientific research.
