Leading UK food company Moy Park has successfully secured a commendable ‘3 Star’ rating in Business in the Community’s annual Corporate Responsibility Index (CR Index), the most in-depth voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.
Achieving a ‘3 Star’ rating for the second time, Moy Park’s performance as a responsible business has remained high against Business In the Community’s robust benchmarking tool which rigorously assesses companies’ commitment to CR practices against a diverse range of factors. In 2013, Moy Park was the first company in the UK poultry industry and the first business from Northern Ireland, to be recognised in the CR Index.
As well as achieving a ‘3 Star’ rating in the CR Index, Moy Park also received the Dairy Crest Rural Action Award reaccredited at the 2015 Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards. This award, conferred on businesses that are committed to continual and positive rural impact, recognised Moy Park’s efforts in supporting and developing youth employment. The company was applauded for schemes such as Young Enterprise, The Prince’s Trust, Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster and Feeding Britain’s Future, aimed at supporting young people in the rural economy.
Mike Mullan, Moy Park HR Director Europe, said:
“Moy Park has been involved with Business in the Community for a number of years and we are honoured to be recognised for our corporate responsibly in two of their initiatives. Since we were first recognised in the CR Index back in 2013, Business in the Community has continued to set tough assessment criteria for those wishing to be included, so we are delighted that Moy Park has been awarded an impressive ‘3 Star’ ranking once again. We have also been reaccredited with Business in the Community’s Dairy Crest Rural Action Award. This recognises our commitment to supporting the rural economy and we are incredibly proud of the fantastic programmes we have been involved with, especially those supporting young people and nurturing talent in the food industry.”
“Moy Park works closely with customers, suppliers, employees and the local community to ensure that we not only meet - but exceed - our responsibilities as business. Corporate responsibility is placed at the very core of Moy Park and we are committed to industry leading operating processes and facilities. We remain the only company from the UK wide poultry industry to be recognised in the prestigious CR Index ranking.”
The CR Index is recognised worldwide and helps companies measure and manage all aspects of their social and environmental performance, shape how they integrate and improve corporate responsibility throughout their business operations, and benchmark themselves against competitors.
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said:
“I congratulate Moy Park for achieving a ‘3 Star’ ranking and look forward to working together to create a fairer society and a more sustainable future. The 2015 CR Index shows us that we are moving in the right direction and companies are now increasingly integrating responsible business practice into decision making right across the business. To truly change business culture, companies need to engage their people to embrace a different way of doing business with responsible values at the core. So it is especially encouraging this year that we have seen a significant increase in the representation of corporate responsibility, both at board level and amongst the generation of future leaders that will shape the businesses of tomorrow. ”
