Oil Recovered from Crumb Sediment for Biofuel

The Craigavon Coated factory generates 8 tonnes per week of crumb sediment, a by product of the coating process on the production lines. Some crumb accumulates in the cooking oil and becomes sediment. However the amount is minimised in the production process by continuous improvement and monitoring.

Since Q1 2012 the sediment is being reused rather than being sent directly for rendering. The high quality oil is recovered and processed into biofuel and the remaining ‘cake’ is used for pet food. The production team has devised a more environmentally friendly solution to deal with the sediment.
