In a continuing drive for more environmentally friendly practices, bottled water coolers are being replaced with plumbed in, mains fed water coolers during Q1 2012. Researchers have estimated that the environmental impact of using bottled water is anywhere between 90 to 1000 times higher than mains water. Government departments have even banned bottled water on the basis of expense and sustainability. Water industry reports show a 24% increase in plumbed in water coolers installed in the UK over the past six years.
The environmental benefits of using mains supplied water coolers far outweigh the energy used and carbon emissions omitted by producing, transporting and disposing of water bottles and plastic containers. Making use of the water supply already installed on site is a sensible, simple, and much more sustainable option.
