As part of the second stage of a partnership project, Moy Park is researching how to reduce the industry's impact on the environment, using computer modelling to look at environmental impacts of the sector, known as Lifecycle Assessment. The partners are exploring a wide range of possibilities including diet, husbandry and new technologies to increase energy efficiency.
The aim of this study is to apply the life cycle assessment (LCA) method, from cradle to gate. Partners in the three-year project include: universities, customers, The Soil Association, the NFU and others in the industry. The first stage of the project analysed both broiler meat and egg performance across a range of production systems.
The research is due to be completed at the end of 2012.
